Who are Criterion?

Criterion is a UK-based psychometric test provider. Criterion’s most popular series is the Coast Series, which consists of a range of online tests including personality questionnaires, situational judgement and aptitude (verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning). The Criterion Personality Questionnaire

Criterion’s personality assessments are designed to explore a candidates tendencies and preferences within the workplace. They look at the following key factors:

  • Emotional style
  • Interpersonal style
  • Thinking style
  • Motivational style
  • Culture-fit style

There are two versions of their personality questionnaire, which we have outlined below:

1) The Core – 21 questions that evaluate you behaviours, feelings, values and motivations that are relevant to the workplace. It is useful for sales and team-based roles. 2) The Enhanced – 30 questions, which build on the Criterion Core, providing a deeper insight into your personality tendencies within the workplace. It is useful for managerial and leadership roles.

Criterion also provide a facility for employers to tailor their own personality questionnaires according to the types of behaviours and strengths they are looking for.

Criterion Ability Test

Ability tests measure the potential of a candidate rather than just academic performance. Criterion offers three levels of assessments in this regard:

1) High Level: Utopia These include high-level reasoning tests used for top-level managers and professionals, as well as graduates. The tests are based on a fictional environmental magazine called “Utopia” and you will be given sufficient information about the magazine for each of the assessments.

The Utopia includes:

  • One numerical reasoning test, which if taken online consists of 16 questions that need to be completed within 18 minutes.

The paper version contains 30 questions that you will have 50 minutes to complete.

  • One verbal reasoning test, which if taken online consists of 16 questions that need to be completed within nine minutes. The paper version contains 40 questions that you will have just 30 minutes to complete.
  • One abstract reasoning test consisting of 16 questions that need to be completed within 45 minutes.

2) Mid level: B2C These include mid-level reasoning tests used for customer facing, administrative and junior management roles. The B2C includes verbal, numerical, abstract and checking ability tests.

3) Blue collar: CWS These are tests relevant for technical, engineering and manufacturing roles. The CWS includes verbal, numerical and mechanical ability tests.

The tests are designed to simulate tasks that manufacturing, engineering and technical roles face on a day-to-day basis. The CWS includes:

  • One verbal test, which if taken online consists of 16 questions that need to be completed within 10 minutes. The paper version contains 32 questions that you will have just 20 minutes to complete. You will be expected to answer questions relating to training material, safety handbooks and staff notice boards that will be provided to you on the day.
  • One numerical test, which if taken online consists of 16 questions that need to be completed within 17 minutes. The paper version contains 32 questions that you will have just 20 minutes to complete.
  • One mechanical reasoning test, which if taken online consists of 12 questions that need to be completed within 20 minutes. The paper version contains 40 questions that you will have just 20 minutes to complete. This test will evaluate your understanding of basic principles of physics such as forces and energy.
  • One fault detection test that is timed paper-based test with 30 questions that need to be answered within 10 minutes. This test assesses your ability to visually inspect and determine where a fault lies within a piece of machinery.
  • The Statistic Process Control test, which is a plotting data test. You will be given fifteen minutes to answer multiple questions based on calculating averages, totals and range values that will need to be plotted correctly onto a graph.
  • A personality questionnaire based on 13 different characteristics. Similar to most personality assessments, you will be faced with multiple statements that you will need to choose is most similar to that of your personality.
